Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I qualify for SharedCare?
To qualify for SharedCare, you must be a resident of Horry County, have no health insurance (including Medicaid or Medicare), have a household income below 200% of the federal poverty level and apply for Medicaid (if eligible) and be denied through no fault of your own.
2. If I am applying for SharedCare, can I mail or fax my application and required documents?
No. You must schedule a face-to-face interview with a SharedCare Health Services Specialist to determine if you are eligible for the program.
3. Do I have to provide proof of income for each person living in my household even if they do not give me money to help pay for my bills?
Yes. Every person in your household who receives income must provide proof of that income. The federal government requires that we collect this information to determine eligibility for the SharedCare program. All information will remain confidential.
4. Is SharedCare an insurance plan?
No. SharedCare is not an insurance plan. SharedCare volunteers donate much of the health care that our members get. SharedCare cannot say how soon these health care givers can see you. Plus, members might be asked to pay for some or all of the health care they get.
5. What health care services does SharedCare provide?
Health care services available through SharedCare may include specialty care, outpatient surgery, urgent dental care, specialty lab tests, sleep studies, X-Ray, MRI and CT scans.
6. Are the health care services provided by SharedCare free?
No. SharedCare does not entitle you to free health care. You may be required to pay for some or all of the health care you receive.
7. If I am enrolled in Family Planning, do I still qualify for SharedCare?
Yes. Family Planning is not an insurance plan so you are still eligible to apply for the SharedCare program.
